Well as you know, the KIT Festival was held in Germany a couple of weeks ago(4/13-4/14), and some of the footage has been leaking in very slowly. I have some live footage of Sabbat and LAAZ Rockit for you kiddies, and for those of you who don't know what the hell the KIT Festival is...Too Bad! Just kidding, It's actually called Keep It True Festival and it's held very often, about twice a year in Germany(like many other badass fests!) It focuses on the OldSchool Metal bands from the 80's 90's and sometimes even from the 70's. This year's fest included:
Destructor,Tankard,Warrant(ger),LAAZ Rockit,Diamond Head,Sabbat,Artillery and Defender among others! I mention those because I thought those were worth mentioning.

Athiest has decided to end thier reunion tour. They'll be playing for the last time soon! So you better catch one of their last shows ever!
ATHEIST's Shaefer comments, "It's very hard to just walk away from this music that is having its day in the sun. The shows keep getting better and better, and the crowds are full of amazing stories of how they discovered our music. But the best and most important thing to us has been the outpouring of brand new people who have embraced our music as being pivotal to the way they listen to metal. That's far more important to us than anything. We will wrap this all up with one final show in New York that will be filmed for a DVD."

First Thrashcast demo ready

Hey folks! My first demo of the bi-weekly Thrashcast is up and ready. Thrashcast is a music "podcast" consisting of only Oldschool Thrash Metal, Speed Metal, and Hardcore Crossover Thrash. That means any Thrash, Speed or Crossover from the time period 1980 to 1995. Thay'll be put up every other Friday. I won't speak very much. Only if I want to, or if I want to tell you some news about the band. I'll mainly be posting that kind of stuff in separate posts. To download you will have to click the heading of every new post. Tell me what you think. I will be posting links to the bands featured in every Thrashcast in the playlist section.
Maybe you want to request a song or a different band? Go ahead and leave it in the comments section. You want it longer? Shorter? Leave me a message in my comments sections. Do I talk too much? Too little?... Different format? Leave comments, please.

Thrashtube No. 1

In addition to my bi-weekly "Thrash Cast", I will also be posting videos, interviews and other types of video clips having to do with Thrash/Speed Metal and Crossover/Hardcore. Formats will be of various types,i.e.: wmv, Quick Time, You Tube and/or links to various web pages that host the videos.
I have chosen to name this regular section "Thrashtube". Pretty clever, huh?

This week's Thrashtube consists of a Swedish TV show(I think). It contains interviews with Scott Ian and Charlie Benante(Anthrax), James Hetfield(Metallica), Lemmy(Motorhead), Miland "Mille" Petrozza(Kreator) and others. For the most part the show is intelligible except for the few intruptions by the narrator. The show is about 20 min. long and is very interesting. It is a wmv format, so not everyone will be able to watch. But don't worry, this is not the only video of this type I will be showcasing. Oh, and make sure you turn down the volume before playing!

Here is a review of Christ Illusion from Chris Steffen of RollingStone.com:

"Those of us impatiently waiting, nail-festooned gauntlets at the ready, for SLAYER to make another 'Reign in Blood' will have to wait a little longer," Steffen writes. "'Christ Illusion', due August 8th, mines much of the same territory as its predecessor, 'God Hates Us All', just without the memorable riffs. It's become downright painful to hear Tom Araya — at 45 years old! — continue to belt out the band's increasingly self-parodying, anti-religious lyrics, like 'Religion’s a whore' and 'I've made my choice: six six six!' The album art takes it all over the top with an image axeman Kerry King dubs 'Christ in a Sea of Despair.' At least their awesome drummer Dave Lombardo (playing on his first SLAYER recording since 1990's 'Seasons in the Abyss') shows off some chops, particularly on the raging 'Supremist'."

Now here's mine:

I've got to dissagree with Steffen up there, I am kinda confused with his review. While there are parts that sound like an extension of God Hates Us All, Christ Illusion is a different album. Christ Illusion is filled with lots of guitars and memorable riffs, so I don't know what he's talking about. This album has guitar written all over it! I just recieved a copy of a promo and am now just listening to it. Steffen actually did make a good point about Supremist, it does sound abit percussive.
I think his interpretation of this album has alot to do with Tom's Voice throughout the album and their satanic references like "666" in the song Cult , which by the way is just in that song alone! His voice has changed alot since the Reign In Blood and Seasons in the Abyss days. You can't change that. Tom has that familiar Diabolus In Musica and GHUA voice, but I also hear his Season's voice as well. Other than that I think this album is great. Jihad is still the radio edit version. I suspect the real copy will have the full version.
The album starts with an eerie organ-like intro(Kinda like those old 70's prog/rock organs) with Flesh Storm and then they end the album with some eerie feedback in the last song Supremist . Flesh Storm is probably a good example of the GHUA and Season's Voice mixture. This song has a good fast pace and lots of chugging. Like I said before it begins with an organ-like sound, much like those used in old prog/rock albums, but for only about 20 seconds and begins with some riffing throughout the whole song. Excellent drumming by Dave. The next song is Catalyst. The same GHUA screaming voice but over a great song. Once again great guitars, twin unison riffing and this is where Dave brings in his deep bottom end to the mix. Eyes Of The Insane is their ode to the war soldier. The wah is in effect here, great guitarring. This song has been heard before already so I won't waste to much time here or the next song which is Jihad. I think everyone's already heard them. But I've got to give credit to them for making a song like Jihad. Skeleton Christ is another song of interest. It has a kind of galloping swing to it until around 1:45 and then it goes into the familiar GHUA type of play then around 3:20 it changes to a "chugalug" fest until it ends which is actually a pretty cool part. The next song Consfearacy begins and sustains with any one song found on their Undisputed album so its abit faster than some of the other songs. If it wasn't for Dave Lombardo, this release would another mediocre GHUA. Dave really brings a strong backbone to Christ Illusion.
The next song of interest follows Consfearacy, it's called Black Serenade. Immediately I brought Expendable Youth to mind. Not in the way they play but the way Tom Araya sings in the intro. It then begins with some cool riffing and then around 1:10 you can hear Kerry's familiar lead that he's synonymous with. Next is Catatonic. This one is laced with some cool riffing. A little slower but the riffs make up for it. Some great use of the Wah pedal around 2:55. This is probably my favorite. It's got a droning feel to it and then Dave kicks it in around 2:40 then it slows down for the lead. Nice chugging after the lead.
I can't stress enough how much Dave really impacted this album.
Next is Cult. EVERYBODY already knows this cult satanic song! Honestly this is the only song that's "satanic"(Slaytanic). This is their middle finger to society. So, Kudos, Slayer!
Then comes Supremist! Man fucking Dave Kicks Ass! Drums, drums, drums!!! Double bass blasts! Kerry and Jeff make this really cool riff in the beginning along with Dave's drumming, Dave does this little flutter with his double bass ever so subtle around :05 seconds into the song. I don't know if that's Dave or a delay but it sounds fuckin' cool as hell! You might miss it if you're not paying close attention. Then around 1:36 another cool change comes in with some really great catchy riffing and then into the flaming leads! The song then ends with some cool feedback leaving me wanting more even though it's 3:50 long. I still wanted more.
Now I think I'm ripped in half between Catatonic and Supremist!

Fuckin' Dave.
All in all, I give Christ Illusion a 9/10. This album would've gotten a 10 if it weren't for Tom's GHUA kind of voice. It's a very good album.

Slayer's Eternal Pyre

Well, the date 6-06-06 has come and gone. But not without leaving us something to endure with. No, I'm not talking about the Apocalypse like all you heathens out there were hoping would happen! I'm talking about Slayer's latest heap of smoldering plastic! Yes that's right, Slayer's latest EP entitled Eternal Pyre, which consists of a single song from their upcoming as yet untitled follow up to God Hates Us All which will be released July 25, 2006. The song is entitled "Cult".
At first listen, it sounds as if it continues in the same path of GHUA. But as you continue on thru, there's a slight difference. That's right! It's Dave Lombardo driving those drums! There's something exciting about listening to Dave Lombardo. Could it be that we haven't heard him play with Slayer in over fifteen years? Maybe, but the fact that Dave is back behind the kit is all the more reason to give Slayer's next release a listening.
"Cult" was not the only song on the EP. The EP was enhanced with two videos. The first video featured is live footage caught from a recent show played in Germany with Slayer playing "War Ensemble". You can tell it was recent because it's got Dave behind drums and Tom's aging beard! It was recorded at the With Full Force Festival, July 1, 2005 by PH-West.
The second feature is about a minute's worth of the band inside the studio rehearsing "Cult" from the upcoming album. From the sounds of it, that song is bludgeoning! There's no vocals, only them playing the song. In the meantime, footage of the band is shown behind the scenes working on "Cult". That was filmed at NRG Studios during the recording of the new album in March of 2005. The intro to the video itself almost sounds like a song from Slipknot. I don't know if that was intended, or another song from the album or even them paying homage to Slipknot themselves!
But the fact is, is that Slayer is back! And from the looks of it, they're back with a vengeance! There doesn't seem to be anything in the way of these Thrash Titans in the clear future. With their new headlining tour coming up, Slayer set to take over the World...\m/ \m/

So keep Thrashin', keep those horns up and open up a can of Whoop Ass©!

Viking's "Man Of Straw" to be re-released!

Viking's 1989 Thrash Metal classic, Man Of Straw, is to be re-released by Lost And Found Records later this month or early next month(July) in agreement with Metal Blade Records. The ever so rare and ultra hard to find Thrash classic will only be limited to 1000 cd's. Singer and guitarplayer Ron "Eriksen" Daniel is playing a large part in the planning and development of the reissue. Ultimately, this classic will still be as rare as it ever was.
Although this classic is a pseudo-christian release, one can easily forget about the lyrics and begin thrashin' all around once the song begin.
I will make my best effort to purchase this classic!

Socialized Hate

What's up? HDT here. So I've been wandering around looking for nothing in particular and stumbled upon another blog. This blog kinda gave me an idea. I figured that if I'm gonna be posting only Thrash Metal related subjects, I might as well post links to obscure and OOP Thrash records.

The first Thrash link I thought I might start with is/was a local band that made some pretty cool records. And the fact that they were known worldwide as an up and coming Thrash band made it even cooler! They are called Atrophy. I, being from here(Tucson), was able to catch them live a few times opening up for some headlining bands. Anyway they're pretty cool! I'll be posting their 1988 album Socialized Hate. Hence the title of my post! You can find a link in the comments section.

I'll probably only do this if and when I feel like posting links like these. Or if I don't have anything better to post. Also, the bands that I will be featuring will be obscure, rare and OOP Thrash Metal albums that you can't find at your local record store. So, those posts will be far and few in between.

There's no accounting for taste

Good day(or night). This is HDT. I am a human born from a human. I have feelings. This blog is dedicated to a type of music I love dearly...Thrash Metal. My main objective in creating this blog, among other blogs, is merely to entertain myself. My mission statement is to serve up dainty platters of thoughts and comments on an old style of music. That music is called Thrash Metal.
Thrash Metal has been my favorite type of music for over 18 years. I have bought, sold and traded many tapes, cd's and records on the subject. This past year or so I have concentrated alot of my efforts into finding and retrieving old recordings, demos and OOP's(out of print) tapes, cd's, records and even mp3's. The latter being the most controversial due to copyright bullshit or whatever. As stated before I have had many recordings, but lately my collection has dwindled down to a far cry of what it used to be. Like it wasn't the way I remembered it to be back in the day.
These passed few months I've had a hair up my ass making me remember all these old bands that I used to like. I began looking thru my collection and began listening to all my records, tapes and whatever I had that was Thrash Metal. I began visiting tape and cd stores looking for old Thrash bands that I used to like. Many of these bands were very hard to find in cd format, let alone tape format. So I began focusing on the internet search engines to look for some favorites that I've lacked. Man, to my surprise! I noticed alot of those cd's were selling on the internet for ungodly amounts! Like one day I was looking for an old Thrash band that I used to like alot called I.N.C.(Indestructible Noise Command),BTW killer band name, and I found a copy of their "The Visitor" going for $150 bucks! I said whoa man, WTF? It turns out that Thrash Metal is making some kind of underground comeback! There are many old OOP cd's on the internet like ebay and Amazon going for who knows how much.
Years have passed since Thrash Metal's heyday. And now that there is interest in Thrash Metal all of a sudden, some of the old bands have been stirring up the bee's nest so to speak. They have been trying to re-release some of their old albums and trying to get labels and distributors to sell their albums again. This has somewhat helped me a bit in my search for old Thrash bands. I've encountered many websites that are dedicated to Thrash Metal.
In my personal search for these grandiose heaps of plastic and paper I have also ran into many other Thrash bands that I have never heard of before and has sparked my interest even more. I can now say that I have become obsessed with the old bands of nore much the way I used to be.
Now I'll will be documenting my finds and any thing related to Thrash Metal in this blog. I will be updating as I recieve information, tapes cd's records and mp3's.
